The import process, start to finish
Importing a car can look complicated from the outside. Our job is to make it feel like buying from any local dealer — with one team accountable for the whole journey.
1. Tell us what you're after
We start with a conversation about the model, grade, colour, mileage and budget you have in mind. We'll show you recent auction results so you can see what similar cars actually sell for in Japan, and agree on a realistic landed budget before anything else happens.
2. We search the auctions
Japan's auction network lists tens of thousands of vehicles every week. We shortlist genuine candidates, obtain the auction inspection sheet for each, and share translations with you — including any noted faults, repairs or modifications.
3. Inspection and bidding
Before we bid, the vehicle is physically inspected at the auction house where possible. We bid only up to the limit you approve — never beyond it — and if we miss out, we simply keep looking. There is always another car.
4. Shipping and import approval
Once purchased, we arrange transport to the port, export documentation and shipping to Australia. We lodge the import approval application on your behalf and keep you updated while the car is on the water — typically four to eight weeks.
5. Compliance and registration
On arrival the vehicle goes through Australian compliance: any required modifications, safety checks and a roadworthy inspection. We then arrange Victorian registration and plates, so the car is ready to drive away.
6. Handover in Nunawading
You collect your car from our Nunawading premises with the complete file: auction sheet, export certificate, compliance paperwork and service records. We walk you through everything the car needs going forward.
